As part of London Fire Brigade (LFB) investment in new PFI Accommodation, a training facility for the LFB was required, specialising in Breathing Apparatus (BA) training, located in Plaistow.
BOOM Collective provided a Soft Landings facilitator role, ensuring the LFB brief was communicated via a golden thread through design and construction stages into operation.
This training facility is intended to be used to train operational personnel in the use and maintenance of breathing apparatus. It can accommodate 50 trainees and includes a Youth Training facility for up to 30 students.
The Breathing Apparatus chamber has been designed to provide a controlled space with heat and smoke simulators, whereby crew will be trained to search in darkness for casualties. The Chamber will have specially designed drainage capabilities, including a crawl channel and ‘sewer simulator’ to extend the training facilities to include flood training.
The training facility, together with the station it is associated with, gained BREEAM Outstanding certification.
