Overview

London Fire Brigade (LFB) procured under Phase 1, 4No PFI fire stations from Blue3, a Kier development team specialising in ‘blue light’ emergency services buildings. BOOM Collective have been responsible for seeing the sustainable engineering aspects of the project, from design, through construction and into operation, as a facilitator of the BSRIA Soft Landings framework.

Phase 1 Fire Stations, (located in Mitcham, Orpington, Plaistow and Old Kent Road) have each been awarded BREEAM “Outstanding” at Design and Post Construction stages with scores ranging from 88% to 92%, demonstrating its sustainable development in accordance with the London Mayor’s Plan.

Each station has included micro-CHP delivering clean energy and PV solar panels on a green roof designed to support their respective area’s biodiversity. BOOM Collective provided the active role of a BREEAM accredited professional, steering the team to ensure the best value was achieved in regards to BREEAM and to ensure the performance gap between design and operation was minimised.
