The former holiday home of a young Queen Victoria had fallen into disrepair after years of neglect as a local council office. Having reached a point where demolition was considered an option, the project team helped secured funding to convert this Grade II listed building into a boutique hotel, giving it a new lease of life in the rejuvenating seaside town of Ramsgate.
The issues surrounding retaining and restoring the buildings historical character while providing the quality and reliability that would be expected in any modern hotel led to many challenges, most notably physical co-ordination in very limited spaces and capital cost.
To address both issues, the project was developed with Building Information Modelling (BIM), helping to inform both Operational and Capital Expenditure cost plans and also the interdisciplinary co-ordination.
The hotel has opened to warm reviews and rooms fully booked. WMEboom’s role on the project extended beyond the M&E Consultancy and helped ensure the local tradesmen and suppliers were furnished with all the information necessary to deliver the performance expected from them.
